Come on in. Walk into my house right now and it smells like fall, feels like fall, looks like fall. There's a candle going that could convince you I've won a blue ribbon for pumpkin bread with a cinnamon-streusel topping. (I haven't. Just sayin.) A few pumpkins by the door, a new throw within reach, and nobody is in a hurry.
It takes almost nothing. A candle lit for no reason. Not a fan of candles? Try this Autumn Simmer Pot recipe. A bowl filled with something you actually love looking at. The whole place lifts faster than you'd think.
My favorite fall decoration isn't a pumpkin, though. It's a carnival glass candy dish that belonged to my grandmother. It's orange, so it practically volunteered for the season. I still fill it with her favorites: Werther's butterscotch, a caramel bullseye, and Hershey's Kisses. Every time I walk past it, I think of her.

The easy part
Somewhere in a cabinet, or a box in your basement, there's something that belonged to someone you loved. It got packed away because nobody knew what to do with it. Taste comes back around. It always does, and the thing you stored out of guilt might be exactly what makes a room feel like yours.
Bringing Style and Happiness into your Everyday life doesn't start with shopping. It starts with shopping your own house.
S.H.E. says
Style: Shop your own cabinets
Go find the thing. Vintage glass is having a real moment: carnival glass, cut glass, milk glass, even old Pyrex. You probably already own some. Pull it out, give it a wash, put it where you'll see it every day, and fill it with something you love.
Happiness: Make your own night in
Happiness doesn't need an occasion. My husband and I skip the crowded restaurants on the nights everyone else goes out. I love putting together a decadent dinner at home, and he turns the sunroom into a little bistro for two, candles and all. After dinner, it becomes a lounge with our favorite music, and a room we usually walk past becomes the one we don't want to leave.
Everyday life: Don't wait for a holiday
Everyday life means not waiting for a holiday. Use the good dishes tonight. Pour the wine into the vintage glasses, just because. The photo below is my own table. Nothing special about the day, everything special about what's on it.

Last week’s Issue was about decluttering your thoughts for a better mindset (Happiness). This week is about the space around you, your home and what you choose to keep close (Everyday). Next week, we’re back to Style, talking about fall trends and what’s actually worth considering.
